Getting to Tuscany by air, by train, by bus or by car

Getting to Tuscany: an overview
Getting to Tuscany is very easy thanks to the excellent national and international connections enjoyed by the region. By bus, by train, by car, by motorcycle, by bike, soon you will realize how much it is easy getting in Tuscany.
Getting to Tuscany: by car

Tuscany is crossed from north to south A1 Highway, passing through Florence and getting to Arezzo, connecting the main Italian cities. Florence is well connected with the coast with the A11 Highway, which touches Prato, Pistoia, Montecatini Terme, Lucca and finally getting to Pisa. Here crosses the A12 Highway, which links the coast of Tuscany with the center of the Region. In addition a well-known highway is the FI-PI-LI, which links Florence to Pisa and Livorno, the Firenze-Siena, and the Siena-Grosseto. Among those highways, is also to remembered the Abetone and Brenner highway, beginning to Pisa and getting up near the Austrian border. Among the major transport companies: the CPT of Pisa, the Pistoia COPIT, the LAZZI of Florence, the Prato’s CAP, ATL  of Livorno and CLAP of Lucca.
Getting to Tuscany: by train

The main rail routes crosses the region from north to south. It easy getting to Tuscany by train. The line between Milan and Rome that runs almost parallel to the A1 Hihgway, stops in Prato, Firenze and Arezzo. Between Florence and Rome you have a direct train without intermediate stations. The other important train rail of Tuscany is the Tyrrhenian one, that runs parallel to the Via Aurelia, linking Rome to Genoa and touching Carrara, Massa, Viareggio, Pisa and Livorno and Grosseto.

Firenze Santa Maria Novella (in the center of Florence)
Pisa Centrale
Lucca Centrale
Prato Centrale
Getting to Tuscany: by plane
It is cheap and easy. The main airport in Tuscany is Pisa’s Galileo Galilei with links to national, European and intercontinental airports. You will find international airlines such as Alitalia, Air France, British airways and Lufthansa but also low cost airlines such as Ryanair and Easyjet. Smaller airports are also present in Florence (Amerigo Vespucci), Grosseto (Corrado Baccarini), Elba (Marina di Campo), and also near Arezzo, Lucca, Siena and Massa for private flights.
Getting to Tuscany: by boat

The port of Livorno is the main port of Tuscany and one of the most important Italian ports and of the entire Mediterranean Sea, both for passenger and goods. Santo Stefano Port is a good way for getting to Tuscany islands, as island of Giglio and Giannutri. From Piombino you have routes to the Island of Elba, Corsica and Sardinia, while Livorno’s Port connects the Tuscany Coast to Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily. Others destinations are the Isola of Capraia and  Gorgona.
